Registration
This league is for players aged 18+ who are interested in joining the Monarchs Women’s Baseball League. Whether you’re new to women’s baseball, returning after time away, or a familiar face from past seasons, you can find everything you need to get started here.
Evaluations
Informal evaluations are typically held on every Saturday in April at BMO Soccer Centre in Clayton Park (keep an eye on the events page). This is an opportunity for the coaches to meet you, see your skill level and get a glimpse of your personality. Coaches are looking for more than just “the best players”, so don’t be worried if you don’t have a lot of experience. Bring a good attitude and give a great effort. Bonus points are given for those who can braid hair, bring gameday snacks, keep a scorebook, and love to hug!
All the evaluation sessions at BMO will be free to attend.
*You must attend at least 2 of these sessions to be considered. This includes returning players. If you have an issue attending, please reach out to Jen Donaldson (nsmonarchs.women@gmail.com).
What to bring to evaluations
- Glove (and any other gear you normally play with)
- Athletic clothing and indoor footwear
- Water
- A positive attitude
The Draft
Once registration opens in March, if you want to enter the draft to be on a team, you must fill out a draft card and pay the $20 fee. This fee will be refunded if you are not drafted to a team, otherwise it will be counted towards your registration fee of $150. Your registration fee includes a jersey, hat and all costs associated with our 10-game season plus playoffs (fields, umpires, balls, etc).
Payments can be made via e-transfer to Jen Donaldson (nsmonarchs.women@gmail.com).
If you don’t get drafted right away, you will be added to the spare list and may be drafted later on if a player is injured or leaves for other reasons. Spares pay $10/game to play, and are given a jersey to wear for games (returned after the game).
The Spare List
Players not drafted immediately will be placed on the spare list. Spares are often called to play games throughout the season due to injuries, scheduling conflicts, or roster changes. Many spares have been offered permanent team positions in past seasons as spots become available.
The Game Schedule
We will be waiting for the approval from HRM, but the proposed schedule is intended to be 1 game every weekend, alternating Saturdays and Sundays, with no games on long weekends.
Check out the Schedule & Events page for opportunities to get involved with off season training before registration opens. This is a great opportunity to get a feel for the game and the league prior to signing up.
